We would like to give you an update on the status of our closest emergency facility, Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services. Sadly, VSES will be closing its doors no later than November 27th. We continue to work with other area hospitals that are able to offer 24/7 care and you can find the complete list of urgent and emergency facilities on our website at: Emergency Services
We are excited to partner with VetTriage to better serve your needs! VetTriage is an on-call service available 24/7 using veterinarians to triage your pet. If you are unsure if your pet needs urgent or emergency care outside of our hospital’s operating hours, please visit Riverside VetTriage. For $50 the veterinarian will view your pet via live video chat and let you know if the issue requires immediate emergency care, or if the situation can be monitored and treated at home until you are able to get an appointment with us.

Our boarding and daycare facility, Riverside Pet Retreat, has limited spots and fills up quickly. The shortage of canine influenza vaccine is continuing to affect clinics across the nation and we are not immune from this shortage. We will resume offering the influenza vaccine as soon as stock becomes available. The canine influenza virus is no longer required to board with us, so don’t let that stop you from booking a reservation! We do highly recommend the vaccine for boarding when it becomes available. This policy is subject to change if we see a health change in the community.
During the summer months it is important to keep our pets cool. Limit time outside in extreme temperatures. One fun way to cool down is to go for a swim and NY has no shortage of bodies of freshwater to choose from! Be careful when choosing where to take your dog swimming because these waters can be teeming with bacteria. Blue-green algae (actually a cyanobacteria!) are toxic when consumed in high concentrations and dogs are more vulnerable to algae poisoning because of their likelihood to play. Keep your dog out of water that appears dirty, foamy or has mats on the surface of the water. Don’t let your dog drink out of ponds and lakes. If you suspect your dog came into contact with blue-green algae, immediately rinse your dog with clean water and contact us. Dermatological problems are a common reason owners bring their pets to the vet which often presents as an itch that just can’t be scratched.
